This applied energy current changes the salt dissolved in the water into liquid chlorine - hypochlorite. The liquid chlorine immediately mixes with the water leaving the chlorinator cell and flows into the swimming pool as clean, chlorinated water. The continuous introduction of liquid chlorine will ensure the continuous sanitization of the pool's water and will not allow the growth of algae. When the liquid chlorine has destroyed the bacteria in the pool, it reverts to salt. This means that the salt is continually regenerated in the process and the only loss of salt is due to backwashing, splash-out and overflow. It may be necessary to add salt to the pool water to bring the concentration back to the desired level of 3,000 parts per million. This form of chlorination will not damage your pool. Chlorine "tablets" or "powder" can damage the pool liner while saline conversion will not. Also, the mildly salted water will not affect the PVC plumbing, filters or pump. Saline chlorination is easier and safer. You will not need to buy or store any dangerous chemicals as you would for a pool.

I normally don’t write product reviews but I wanted to help what I suspect was an unfair one by a prior reviewer.
We’ve been using this system for 3 years with a 6000 gallon pool and it has changed the way we look at pool care. The procedure is simple– add the recommended amount of salt, program the unit, and it takes care of the rest.
No more algae, no more adding chemicals, no more burning eyes and dry skin. The pool water is like physiological saline and opening your eyes under water is like bathing them in Visene. Very pleasant. Everybody who uses our salt water pool loves it, particulary people with chlorine sensitivity and dry, sensitive skin as it is therapeutic for the latter.
When adding this much salt (160 pounds in our case), don’t be discouraged by the unit giving a low salt warning at first. It takes up to 24 hours for the salt to fully dissolve and register. I personally appreciate the unit having the capability to tell you whether your salt level is too low or too high (in addition to otehr warnings like insufficinet flow from the main filter system).
For the price especially, I find this unit highly sophisticated. Try it, you’ll like it.

Not wanting to spend a lot of money on Chlorine products for my above ground pool, I researched salt water systems. I found the Intex model to be the lowest priced and easiest to operate system out there. I have been using it for 3 weeks now, in a 12,400 gallon 24′ above ground pool and have detected ZERO algae growth. The water has stayed crystal clear, easy on the eyes and most importantly, no chemicals!!
If you are using a chlorine system now but are thinking about switching. Don’t hesitate.
PS Salt should be available in 50 lb bags from most pool stores for less than $10.00 a bag. Don’t get gouged on this item. Also, as a general rule of thumb, you’ll need 50lb per 2000 gallons of water.

Really works great. I have a small frame pool (12′ round) for which I purchased this unit. I also purchased a 2500 GPH filter pump to go with it. Together they work wonderfully. Of course it is overkill on a pool my size (which came with a 800 gph filter). Having the excess power of the pump, though, combined with the salt cholorinator makes maintenance a breeze. After adding the required 50 lbs of non-iodized salt that I obtained at a pool supply store, I have checked the chlorine level daily for about a week. Running the salt chlorinator only 1 hour each day leaves my chlorine level a little on the high side immediately afterward which is good. Running the pump for hours will tend to reduce the chlorine level. So, if you get your chlorine too high (due to too much salt) and you have a strong pump, you need only run it for a while after the chlorinator runs and the chlorine level will come down. By morning my chlorine level is perfect. I have put my pump on an exterior plug timer (about $10 at a home store) so that it automatically comes on daily after use. The salt chlorinator is set to automatically come on the same time each day as long as it stays plugged in and there are no power outtages. This allows both the pump and chlorinator to work automatically. Good product and affordable.

We have had the saltwater system for about 2 weeks and we love it. The best things about the saltwater system are no more worrying about chlorine levels and shocking the pool(it does it for you), it’s better for your skin, saves money (over the long run)and the pool is much clearer. The only problem we had was our pool filter was on a time clock and this unit needs constant power because it has it’s own clock built inside(if the power goes off you have to reprogram it, but it only takes 30 seconds) so we had to run another circiut for the the saltwater filter seperate from the time clock (not a problem because my husband is an electrician). I would recommend this product.

I have a 15′x 4′ Intex Metal Frame pool with the 1000gph filter. We bought the Saltwater Chlorinator because I didn’t want to deal with all the chemicals with a regular pool. It was overwhelming to see all the things you had to buy and I didn’t want to have to overthink my pool.
We have been using this for over a month and it is wonderful. I used the chart to put in the proper amount of salt, added the salt to fresh water and let it dissolve completely overnight. We got in the next day and played in the water for a bit to make sure it was well dissolved and mixed around and it was. We used Mortons Pool Salt which we found at our local home improvement store. I put in about 100lbs of salt. Ran it for the first time with no issues. Set up was easy once we read the instructions.
I have had no problems with error lights or anything. One time I had the low flow light, but I checked my filter and it was really dirty, cleaned it and it was off and running again. I look forward to my 93 reading every morning. I have my pump on a timer and the chlorinator comes on in the middle of the 6 hour pump cycle I run.
The only chemicals I have had to add was cyuranic acid when I first started since we live where it is HOT and SUNNY. My chlorine was disappearing within a few hours when it was 110 degrees outside. Now it stays in a safe level until the next day. I usually run it for 3 hours a day. Haven’t noticed a difference in my electric bill of any consequence. I also have to add acid when my pH is off. I check the chlorine and pH every morning when I go out to skim the pool. I have yet to shock the pool, crystal clear water, so haven’t seen the need.
My kids love the salt water. The little one swims with her eyes open and they don’t get red or irritated like they do at regular pools. I can taste the salt a bit in the water, but I don’t mind. I am an ocean girl at heart and it isn’t near the saltiness of the ocean.
I am very happy with my purchase. I hope to get at least 2 seasons out of this, we will see how it goes as time goes by and I will update if things change from how they are now.

I have used this product all summer and with only $20 worth of salt it has keep my pool crystal clear all summer long. When I was on vacation and the power went out, the pool was a little green when I got home, 1 day after resetting the unit it was clear again. It takes no time, no chemicals, I love it.

This generator works great. We have had an intex above ground pool for 2 years now (15′ round), and decided to buy the generator based partially on some of the reviews I read online, but because I can’t stand the chemical chlorine. According to my husband it was easy to install and it cycled overnight before we used the pool. The difference is amazing! The water feels silky, my skin was not irritated and yes you can open your eyes underwater with no burning or stinging. We would recommend this product to anyone who has a pool. After swimming our hair and skin truly feels conditioned. The salt was purchased at a Grocery Store for a total cost of under $21.00 and we didn’t even use it all. The pool stays crystal clear all the time.

Ok I try to do my research before buying anything online. And from what I read about this pump it seem like it would be worth it. I have a 15×48 metal frame intex pool that I got from Wal-Mart. And last year i bet i spent 200 or more on chemicals and chlorine and my pool was never right… I am sure you can get them right but here in Texas with the heat and rain it was an everyday battle and it seem like the balance of the pool was never perfect.. Ok enough about my bad experience from last year.
First thing you need to do is buy a heavy duty timer for your regular pump. (About 20.00) find one that has 2 on off modes.
Then depending on the size of your pool, I got 3-40pds bags of slat from Wal-Mart (about 6.00 a bag)
It says to use I think 110 pounds of salt for a 15×48 pool. Well I decided to try a little less than that first and see what happens. So I used 80 pounds of salt.
I ran my regular pump for about 5 hours after I put the salt in the pool. I then got in the pool and splashed the water around and made sure there was no salt on the bottom of the pool.
I turned the salt system on and after about a min it starting making chlorine.
No warnings no beeping.
With my timer for the regular pump it comes on about an hour before the salt system and turns off about an hour after the salt system for a total of about 5 hours. So it’s off by 1 in the afternoon. Then I set it to come back on at midnight and run till about 3 am. (That gets all the bugs off the water)
I told my buddy do you know what I have put in this pool since I set it up. He said what? I said water and salt…. That’s it water and salt!!
This thing will pay for it self after one year of use.

I was skeptical buying this system because the pool stores all bad mouthed these systems, and I can see why, they want to sell chemicals! I decided to give it a try and I was amazed! My pool has been open 4 weeks, I used no chlorine, and it still sparkles like the day I filled it.
I have an 18ft round intex pool with about 6500 gallons of water. I had a hard time finding pure pool salt, every pool store I called did not carry or even know about the stuff. Like I said, they are in denial! I wanted the pure stuff and not the water softener salt, so I finally found a hardware store that ordered 5 bags of pool salt for me. I added 160 lbs to the pool and it dissolved almost immediately. I have a 1.5 horse pump, so there is no flow problems pushing through both a gas heater and the chlorinator. (I know, an expensive pump and heater on a $500 pool?) I will be upgrading to a deck and semi inground larger pool next year and I wanted to get the equipment I needed.
Anyway, the system has been working like a charm. I always take my water for a computer test at a local pool store. They tell me the chlorine in right in range and the PH was almost perfect. They ask if I had shocked the pool and I tell them that I never used a drop of chlorine this season! Then they are all ears and want to know more about the system.
I recommend this system to anyone. Don’t pour that nasty chlorine in your pool anymore. The water feels great on your skin and eyes, and it saves you money too! Check it out!

Purchased this late last summer as I got tired of spending hundreds of dollars (and hours) each year maintaining a 18×4 above ground pool. This is the best thing I could have done. I have added 5 bags of salt (3 initial + 2 over the winter due to lots of rain) and that’s it.
To open my pool this year, I spent 90 minutes vacuuming and skimming it (no cover for the winter) but the water was still crystal clear. In the past it would take me a whole day of draining, cleaning, and refilling plus chemicals since I could never keep the algae out over the winter.
I cannot recommend a salt system enough – and this little unit works fine. The only negative is that it loses settings in a power outage. However, considering the time and money it has saved me I’m fine with it.
PS: I also upgraded to a 2500 gph pump since the stock 1000GPH is not enough.
